Choose court proof, a driving record or a history search

For the outcome of a South Carolina DUI prosecution, seek the judgment or disposition from the court that handled the charge. For license history, request an SCDMV driving record. For a broader South Carolina criminal-history check, SLED CATCH is a separate product. Decide which question you need answered before paying; one source’s silence does not cancel information shown by another.

Start with the citation or case number, the person’s name and the relevant dates. Compare the charge and disposition carefully; an arrest or a pending DUI allegation is not a conviction. Keep the court outcome and license record together when you need to show both what the court decided and what is recorded by SCDMV.

Locate the case and obtain its disposition

Use the Judicial Branch’s Case Records – Trial Court route, choose the county and locate the case through its public index. The official guide says the service needs cookies and JavaScript; some case-detail windows need a pop-up exception. Only some municipal courts participate. An absent municipal result therefore calls for the named court rather than a conclusion that the person has no DUI case.

Record the case number, court, charge and disposition date, then ask the handling clerk for the judgment or disposition and certification if required. The Judicial Branch provides a clerk roster and courthouse finder. Specify the document rather than requesting an undefined “DUI record.” Copy charges, release restrictions and delivery depend on that court and file; the statewide navigation pages do not establish one fee or turnaround for every court.

Select a three-year or ten-year driving report

SCDMV sells your own three-year or ten-year driving record online for $10. Choose the period required by the recipient. Its free online points summary only reports the number of points; it is not the full driving history and cannot establish that a person has never had a DUI. A case outside the chosen reporting period may not be answered by that report.

SCDMV currently warns that some customers cannot print during the online order, but says an official copy still arrives by mail. Check the mailing address on file before ordering. MV70 also allows a driving-record purchase at a branch or by mail. Electronic ordering and official delivery are distinct, so plan for the mailed copy when a recipient needs it.

Use MV70 for the permitted person and document

Another driver’s full report requires the driver’s consent or a permitted purpose under the Driver’s Privacy Protection Act. MV70 requires the applicable-use declaration and requester details. For one driver, enter the name, date of birth and South Carolina driver-license, beginner-permit or ID number if available; describe the information requested. Complete the driver-consent portion when relying on that authorization.

Mail MV70 and a check or money order payable to SCDMV to Alternative Media, P.O. Box 1498, Blythewood, SC 29016-0035; do not mail cash. The form prices each separate MVR, ticket/suspension notice or other related document at $10. Only driving records can be purchased at a branch under these instructions; the other listed documents must be requested by mail.

Understand CATCH’s cost and matching limits

CATCH is a South Carolina-only name-based search of criminal-history information supported by submitted fingerprints. It does not include wanted-person information and is not a national check. Search using the first name, last name and date of birth; the site describes a starts-with match and searches a Social Security number if voluntarily supplied. Names, birth dates and aliases can produce false matches or misses. SLED conducts fingerprint-based checks only when required by statute. A CATCH result does not replace a known court disposition.

The standard CATCH report costs a nonrefundable $25. Its dated July 1, 2026 notice lists a $1.43 online service fee, while older text on the same page still says $1. Do not rely on the older figure or assume both charges are cumulative; confirm the final amount shown before paying. The site says mail-in requests do not incur the convenience fee.

Reconcile the returned records and seek correction

Keep a brief comparison with the court’s case and outcome dates, the DMV report’s three- or ten-year span, the date of the CATCH search and whether any result was only a points summary. If the documents disagree, identify the exact entry and contact the office that maintains it rather than altering your copy or treating a missing result as an expungement.

SLED states that subjects can correct erroneous criminal-history information. Its CJIS office describes its state-repository role and lists 803-737-9000 as the agency contact; ask for the criminal-record correction procedure and provide the supporting court disposition through the method it specifies. For a wrong court entry, ask the court clerk to review the file; for a DMV discrepancy, take the case and driver identifiers to SCDMV.
